Written by a patient at Royal Lancaster Infirmary
8th February 2017

I felt he was in a rush. (My appointment was running half an hour late. This didn't matter too much but it would have been nice to receive an apology.) He didn't seem to know why I was there and asked me what I was there for. (I was there for a hearing test, since some loss of hearing had been identified by practitioners on earlier occasions). He looked at one ear and then said it needed hoovering. He didn't explain what this meant. He put an instrument in my ear and started a reasonably noisy machine. I didn't know what to expect or what was involved, so I was somewhat tense. 'Scared?' he asked me. 'Yes,' I said. He abruptly sent me away with some ear drops - even though the original doctor's referral had explained that my ears were not blocked. (Perhaps they had become so, since then, but there was no explanation - nor how to use the drops.) He said I should come back in 2 months. All over in five minutes.
